Real-time adherence refers to the monitoring of whether agents are working in line with their planned schedules at any given moment. It compares scheduled activities, such as handling calls, taking breaks, or completing offline tasks, with the agent’s actual system status.
Workforce schedules are built to match forecasted demand. If agents move away from their assigned activities without approval, staffing coverage can shift quickly. Real-time adherence ensures that the operational plan remains intact throughout the day.

How Real-Time Adherence Is Measured
Real-time adherence is tracked through workforce management systems that compare schedule data with live system activity. Each agent’s logged status is reviewed against their assigned schedule in defined time intervals.
If an agent is scheduled to handle calls but remains in an unavailable status beyond an agreed tolerance, this is recorded as non-adherence. Approved exceptions, such as coaching sessions or system issues, are normally excluded from penalty calculations.
